Aggregates Overview
We are seeking a licence to develop an aggregate quarry on a portion of our land in Melancthon Township. The site of the Melancthon Quarry was carefully selected so that our aggregate operations could be conducted in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner. We have also stated our goal of progressively rehabilitating the site to agricultural and associated uses. The proposed Melancthon Quarry is intended to be, and will be designed as, a state-of-the-art and modern operation.
Melancthon Township is already home to an aggregate industry, with millions of tonnes being produced for customers throughout Ontario. The area features one of the largest deposits of the highest quality Amabel dolostone (limestone) in the province. The presence and nature of this deposit was referenced in the Province of Ontario’s revised Aggregate Resource Inventory Paper (163) for Dufferin County issued in December 2009.
We have filed the appropriate licensing and planning applications to develop and operate the Melancthon Quarry with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Township of Melancthon. The review and approval process will involve various provincial ministries as well as our local representatives and neighbors. It will allow for study, review, public debate, comments, design and redesign. Our applications present our proposal after taking great care to consider our local environment and the community. The development and operation of the Melancthon Quarry is regulated by local and provincial standards to insure that it achieves the appropriate balance between the need for aggregate, the protection of the environment and respect for the community.
