Farming Overview
Our farming operation, with long-established brands like Downey Potato Farms and Wilson Farms, is the largest grower, packer and distributor of potatoes in Ontario. While most of our farming properties are located in Melancthon Township, we also have a presence in Mulmur Township and in Norfolk County. We grow 12 varieties and produce more than 100 million pounds of potatoes each year for potato chips, grocery stores and restaurants in Ontario.
We employ nearly 70 men and women in our Melancthon-area farming operation. We have invested millions of dollars in field equipment, storage facilities and packing operations. We have also worked to develop land management techniques including enhanced crop rotation and environmentally-friendly farm plans. These and other measures have helped our farming operations increase yields and varieties while continuing to deliver the highest quality products to our customers.
We have been awarded several new business contracts that reflect the quality of our farms products, the skill of our people and the confidence we have earned as a reliable supplier for the long term.
