The Melancthon Quarry

Generating community benefits

We have taken a proactive approach to communication with the community about our project. We have provided information to local municipal councils and our neighbours in writing, by open house and by small informal meetings. In 2009, we initiated a voluntary drinking well monitoring program for our neighbours, which included sharing water well results and direct access to our water experts.

We proactively participate in the community, sponsoring local events, youth sports teams and other community projects. Our potato farming operation is one of the largest in Ontario and currently provides 70 of the approximately 300 local jobs in the Melancthon area. The Melancthon Quarry will contribute significantly to the local community. It is estimated that the quarry will provide about 465 jobs with almost $1.2 million of annual municipal taxes and fees and over $140 million of annual local spending.

With the Melancthon Quarry, Melancthon Township would be well positioned to improve local services and amenities for the community. In addition, the Melancthon Quarry, as a potential railway customer, would help support the re-establishment of the railway north of Orangeville bringing jobs and economic growth to the wider Dufferin County community and helping to meet the growth targets contemplated in provincial growth plans.
