The Melancthon Quarry
The licence area
The Melancthon Quarry contains an estimated 1 billion tonnes of high quality Amabel Dolostone. The Licence Area, shown below, is approximately 937 ha with an Excavation Area of approximately 765 ha. The limestone resource within the Excavation Area is an average of 57.6 m deep with an average overburden thickness of 6 m. The size and magnitude of this project not only ensures a long term supply of aggregate but also justifies the ever increasing costs of licensing and operating a state of the art, modern quarry that is sensitive to its neighbours and the environment.
